NRW Educators Webinar
Reconciliation SA has partnered with Reconciliation Australia’s Narragunnawali: Reconciliation in Education program to support educators in South Australia to take action towards reconciliation in the classroom, throughout the school environment and within the local community.
In our work with educators across South Australia we get lots of questions about where to get started, how to build strong and lasting relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and how to embed this into planning for children and young people?
Join us for a webinar with Uncle Michael O’Brien, a Kaurna elder, on how to work with people in a way that is respectful and from the heart. Mickey Kumatpi Marrutya O’Brien is a Senior Aboriginal Man, a descendant of the Kaurna (Adelaide Plains) and Narrunga (York Peninsula) peoples. Uncle Mickey has been, sharing cultural engagement for a number of years. A role handed to him from his Father, Uncle Lewis Yerla Burka O’Brien. It is a position Uncle Mickey says he “honours and respects greatly.” Uncle Mickey is a recipient of the Rotary Club Courtesy Award, for Community involvement working with youth, and an Australia Day Service Award recipient, for work as a volunteer on advisory groups.
Natalie from Reconciliation SA will share information about Narragunnawali, creating a Reconciliation Action Plan, and how to implement the action Building relationships with Community in ways that value First Nations people’s time and contribution, as well as some simple beginning steps of how to get started.
