What does meaningful allyship with Aboriginal Peoples look like?
How do we move beyond good intentions and into genuine action?
These are some of the important questions that will guide Allies in Action, an upcoming community gathering hosted by Unley Allies on Sunday 19 July 2026 in Clarence Park.
Facilitated by Jade Brook, proud Kaurna and Narungga woman, founder of Third Camp and recipient of the South Australian Active Citizen of the Year Award 2024, the workshop invites participants to engage in an afternoon of connection, reflection and learning centred on building respectful relationships with Aboriginal Peoples and communities.
Allyship is a word that is increasingly used in conversations about reconciliation and social change. Yet many people are left wondering what allyship looks like in practice and how they can contribute in meaningful ways.
Allies in Action provides an opportunity to explore these questions in a supportive and collaborative environment. Through storytelling, yarning and shared learning experiences, participants will be encouraged to reflect on their role in supporting reconciliation, cultural safety and self-determination.
Rather than focusing on quick solutions, the workshop emphasises the importance of relationships, listening and ongoing learning.
Drawing on Third Camp's framework of Healing, Connecting and Knowing, the gathering will create a space where participants can deepen their understanding of Aboriginal perspectives, stories and ways of knowing, being and doing.
Whether attendees are just beginning their allyship journey or have been walking alongside Aboriginal communities for many years, the workshop offers an opportunity to challenge assumptions, expand understanding and consider how meaningful allyship can be embodied in everyday actions.
As Third Camp teaches, relationships come first. The deeper our relationships become, the greater our responsibility to listen, learn, adapt and act.
A central message of the workshop is that allyship is not about speaking for Aboriginal Peoples.
Instead, allyship involves creating space for Aboriginal voices to be heard, respected and elevated. It is about walking alongside Aboriginal Peoples—not in front, not instead of, but in relationship.
Throughout the afternoon, participants will explore practical ways to:
Guests are invited to arrive from 3:30pm to connect with others and enjoy refreshments, including Indigenous food tasting experiences, before the workshop begins at 4:00pm.
As an interactive learning experience, participants will be encouraged to actively contribute to discussions and reflections. The gathering aims to foster a respectful environment where diverse perspectives can be shared safely and constructively.
