YEAR IN REVIEW: Social Media, and Event Success

The past year has been one of growth, connection and momentum for Reconciliation SA. Across our social media platforms, events calendar and membership community, we have seen an unmistakable shift on our socials: more people engaging and more South Australians showing a desire to be part of reconciliation.

Our online presence continued to strengthen as we shared stories, updates, media releases, insights, educational content and a curated stream of news, helping new audiences discover the work of Reconciliation SA and keeping long-standing supporters connected and informed.

This consistency of communication, especially during key national moments of Truth-Telling, Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC, helped build a vibrant digital community that carried conversations well beyond the walls of our office.

Our Instagram grew by over 35%, which is fantastic, while Facebook grew by over 20%, and LinkedIn by over 15%. We were impressed by our Facebook growth, as at one stage, the growth on that platform had slowed to a complete stop. Its sudden resurgence is impressive, and we only have you, our followers, to thank.

This growing visibility translated clearly into the success of our events program. This year’s National Reconciliation Week Breakfast became the largest in South Australian/Australian history, with more than 3,000 people gathering at the Adelaide Convention Centre and hundreds more joining from regional communities via livestream.

For many, it was their first time witnessing the scale, diversity and energy of reconciliation in action. Expanding the event to include regional participation for the first time ensured that communities from Port Augusta, Mount Gambier, Port Lincoln and beyond could share the experience.

The year’s events reflected a collective appetite for connection and learning, and a commitment from partners, sponsors, government agencies and community groups to be active in this space. The atmosphere at each event was a reminder that reconciliation continues to resonate deeply across the state.

Membership also experienced a strong year, with a renewed focus on communication, engagement and organisational support. The introduction of a dedicated Membership Manager helped improve the experience for both new and existing members, ensuring people feel welcomed, informed and valued.

Membership continues to be a vital backbone of our organisation, linking individuals, workplaces, community groups and institutions who want to contribute to reconciliation not only in principle, but in practice.

The growth we experienced this year demonstrates that more South Australians are recognising the importance of supporting ongoing cultural learning, truth-telling and relationship building.

Altogether, this year’s achievements in digital engagement, event participation and membership growth paint a clear picture: reconciliation is not a niche topic nor a one-day-a-year conversation. It is alive, active and gaining momentum across South Australia. Our community continues to grow in both size and depth, creating a strong foundation for the work that lies ahead.
