Media Release 26th May 2025

South Australia will witness its largest-ever Reconciliation gathering when more than 3,000 people come together at the Adelaide Convention Centre for Reconciliation SA’s annual National Reconciliation Week Breakfast on Tuesday May 27th, 2025.

This year’s event, themed “Bridging Now to Next”, for the first time, will connect urban and regional communities with support from The Department for Education, with live streams from the Reconciliation SA event at Adelaide Convention Centre, reaching schools in Port Augusta, Mount Gambier, and Port Lincoln, where local Mayors and dignitaries will join students in marking the occasion.

Aboriginal Affairs Minister Kyam Maher will address the crowd, reaffirming the State Government’s commitment to reconciliation and strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and all South Australians.

Reconciliation is not a destination, it’s an ongoing journey - one that belongs to every South Australian, from the city to our farthest regional communities,” Says Reconciliation SA Co Chair Jeremy Johncock.

Adding to this, Peter Malinauskas said “It’s inspiring to see our young people, our community leaders, and our educators come together to bridge divides and build respect for the future.”

Reconciliation SA CEO Jason Downs said this year’s record attendance and increased support from the Local Government Association reflects the growing momentum behind reconciliation across the state.

“With more than 3,000 people in Adelaide and hundreds more in regional centres joining us live, this event is about creating a united South Australia where respect, understanding, and shared progress lead the way. We’re particularly proud to involve students across the state - they represent the next generation who will carry reconciliation forward.” Mr Downs said.

Reconciliation SA Co Chair Helen Connolly says, “SA is leading positive change in many ways for Reconciliation, it’s amazing to see such support and promise in a time where racism is still rife. We need allies who show up, stand proud, and defend the rights and recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Every step forward at events like these builds on the legacy of those who fought before us and promises a better future for the generations to come.”

The event will feature cultural performances, addresses from community leaders, and a live feed to participating schools.
