Applications for the 2026 Indigenous Governance Awards (IGAs) have been extended, giving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and groups more time to apply and share their stories of strong community leadership.
Delivered by Reconciliation Australia through the Indigenous Governance Program, the Indigenous Governance Awards celebrate outstanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led organisations and initiatives that demonstrate excellence in governance and make extraordinary contributions to their communities and to the nation.
The awards shine a light on the strength, resilience and innovation of Indigenous governance models. Across Australia, many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations are leading the way through community-led decision-making, cultural authority, and strong, accountable leadership. The IGAs recognise these efforts and provide an opportunity to highlight the important work being done in communities across the country.
As part of the awards, winners in each category receive a $20,000 prize, along with opportunities for further development, networking and engagement through the Indigenous Governance Program. These opportunities are designed to support organisations to continue strengthening their governance and expanding their impact.
The application deadline for the 2026 awards has now been extended to 11:55pm (AEDT) on Friday 20 March 2026, providing additional time for eligible organisations and groups to prepare and submit their applications.
